How does PrismAS Work?
PrismAS is a Windows system service that is accessed via TCP/IP. The client (iMS) sends scan requests to the PrismAS server each time an email is received. The PrismAS server utilizes a database of thousands of rules and assigns a score to the email; the higher the score the greater the likelihood that the email is SPAM. The score, and the rules which affected the score, are returned to the iMS server. The score and details may be used in the iMS DATA template to tag the email subject as SPAM, delete the email, etc. depending upon the overall score. For example, a server may label the subject of an email as SPAM if the score is above 5.0 and may delete the mail altogether if the overall score is above 10.0.The scanning process is illustrated below.
1) An email is received by the iMS server.
2) The iMS server connects to the PrismAS server via the specified TCP/IP port and requests that the server scan the designated email file. The PrismAS server returns the score and details to the iMS server.
3) The iMS server then includes the PrismAS results when the DATA template is executed
