When you purchase PrismAV for iMS, you are purchasing two pieces:
The iMS plug-in for PrismAV (onetime charge)
A subscription to virus definition updates (renewed annually)
The iMS plug-in for PrismAV does not expire. You may continue to use the virus scanning engine as long as you wish.
The virus definition subscription expires after one year, and must be renewed each year in order to receive the latest virus signature definitions. A yearly subscription entitles you to all virus definition updates as well as all virus scanning engine enhancements published during the period of the subscription.
PrismAV for iMS is priced according to the number of SMTP threads you are running and comes with a free 6 month virus signature subscription (a $500 value).

Virus Definition Auto Updates
Updates to the virus definitions, and the virus scanning software itself, are done automatically by an updater process running on the system. The updater runs as a system service or application on Windows NT and Windows 2000, and as an application on other Windows versions.
The updater service requires that the computer running the updater have access to the internet (port 80 in particular).
The updater service allows the user to schedule updates:
Daily (recommended)
Weekly or
Monthly
It also includes an "Update On Demand" feature. Scheduled updates require no intervention.
If the update includes an update to the core virus scanning engine, the update will be configured to take place at the next server reboot (Note: this does not affect signature updates - only updates to the engine). The user will be notified via email and popup message that the server needs to be rebooted in order to complete the update.
